Beswick was founded by James Wright Beswick in 1892 in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. Initially, the company produced tableware and utilitarian ceramics, but it later shifted its focus to decorative pieces, including animal figurines. Over the years, Beswick produced figurines representing a wide variety of dog breeds, from terriers and spaniels to hounds and retrievers. Each figurine was meticulously crafted and hand-painted to capture the distinctive characteristics of the breed.
Unfortunately, in 2002, the Royal Doulton group decided to close the Beswick factory in Stoke-on-Trent. This marked the end of an era for Beswick as a manufacturer of ceramic figurines. However, the legacy of Beswick dog figurines lives on through the collectors who continue to cherish and trade these pieces.
