Dora Sandoval was born in Oaxaca, Mexico in 1934 and is known for her work in the traditional Oaxacan pottery technique. She began learning the craft of pottery-making from her mother and grandmother at a young age and has been creating ceramics for over 50 years.

Sandoval's ceramic work is inspired by the flora and fauna of her native Oaxaca, and she often incorporates intricate floral and animal motifs into her pieces. Her work is characterized by its vibrant colors and intricate designs, which are achieved through a meticulous process of hand-building and hand-painting each piece.

Sandoval has exhibited her work in Mexico and internationally, and her pieces are held in collections around the world. She has won numerous awards for her contributions to the art of pottery-making in Mexico, including the National Prize for Arts and Sciences in the Popular Art and Traditions category in 1996.
